Camden Town & market (Jan. 8)

Originally I wanted to head to Borough Market for something tasty and then go to Camden for lunch... alas, we left the flat later than planned. Fortunately, Camden Lock Market was a lot of fun, and had satisfactory food. I believe I had three or four cups of mulled wine from one particular vendor. The spiced, hot drink was perfect on such a chilly day. It was also the perfect day to wear gloves, but I mistakenly left them behind in the flat.

I bought all the souvenirs for my friends here, and I'm sure they will like the goods. A beautiful bracelet, a leather-bound book, a poetic and funny piece of graphic art... I couldn't help but splurge on some of the handcrafted items, yet once I bought enough for my friends, I sternly reminded myself that there were still nine days I had to get through. The open market was busy and exciting, and reminded me a little of the street market in Jamaica, Queens that I went to with some friends last summer. Camden was of course bigger, and better. I loved seeing all these differently dressed people milling around; some of the store fronts looked questionable, but I could see why they were popular among people who like black and strappy things. My friend and I walked all over Camden, but we didn't feel tired. There was a lower level of the market with many giant horse statues and reliefs decorating the walls, and I liked looking at the graffiti art next to the regal horses. This part of the market was quieter, but the vendors were friendly. I hope they get a good amount of customers. People generally seem happier in London. I suppose I would be happy too, if I had access to a market full of lovely trinkets and cool stuff...
We bought dinner from one of the food stalls. Our choices were somewhat limited since most cleaned up around nightfall. We sat outside to eat our food, which sounds like a nice idea, but it was cold and windy. It wasn't long before our hands were raw from the cold and the food quickly cooled. The mulled wine couldn't even work its magic anymore. Nonetheless it felt good to eat after walking around for hours.
